While many of us today couldn't imagine living in a room completely papered in such a dense gilt and floral extravaganza, the small fragment here on its clean wood panel serves up just enough to enjoy the luxurious flavor, without over-indulging.
Though this paper is typical of the fine and intensely layered all-over floral patterns of the 1880s, it is the shimmering gilt background and the rich palette of burgundy, tan, and dusty rose that sets this paper apart.
In existance from 1880 to 1887, the American Wallpaper Manufacturers Association (A.W.P.M.A.) was a trust formed by many of the major wallpaper factories, dominating the market during the high point of the Gilded Age.
