In a classic example of the blending of Arts & Crafts motifs with popular tastes, this scenic frieze might have been used over the picture molding in any bungalow or foursquare between 1910 and 1920. The manufacturer is a mystery, but the paper features a scenic mountain landscape framed by trees with a stylized rose border, and is printed on a paper embossed to resemble coarse-weave fabric or burlap. (For those of us in Portland, it isn't hard to imagine "The Rose City" and Mt. Hood when looking at it.)
Mounted on ¾” bamboo plywood panel.
