Flocked papers in the 1880s were often quite different than what we think of today from the multitude of ersatz flocked "Victorian" patterns produced in the 1960s.

This example is a case in point. Flocking serves as the velvety background to a wonderful mix of colors and metallic pigments in a lovely hand block-printed border pattern of scrolling vines and flowers.

In existance from 1880 to 1887, the American Wallpaper Manufacturers Association (A.W.P.M.A.) was a trust formed by many of the major wallpaper factories, dominating the market during the high point of the Gilded Age.

Mounted on beveled ¾” bamboo plywood panel.
