Sometimes in our treatments we retain the selvage and rough edges of an original paper, and sometimes we trim them away to put the emphasis on the design rather than its "wallpaper-ness."
This presentation of a Birge tooled leather ornament paper from early in the 20th century lets the embossed medallion with its hand-stained antiquing and Arts & Crafts stylization get all the attention. Below it a panel treatment of another Birge paper from the same period is similarly trimmed, but in a modern panel mounting.
